2017 NAKU National Championships

The Namibian Karate Union (NAKU) hosted it’s National Karate Championships at The Dome in Swakopmund on Saturday the 9th of September 2017.

Four out of the Seven NAKU styles were represented at the Championships; with 155 athletes participating across 53 categories.

As part of NAKU’s strategy to improve the standard of Karate in country and to ensure that athletes support their own organizations an athlete is only qualified to enter the NAKU National Championships if he or she achieved a medal placing at a previous style or national event.

The athletes who won medals over the past weekend at the National Championships will now form part of a national training squad; from which Selectors will choose the team that will represent Namibia at the 2018 Region 5 Karate Championships to be held in Gaborone, Botswana. Trials will be conducted early in 2018.

It is then the intention of NAKU to select from the Region 5 medal winners a group to participate at the Africa Karate Championships hosted by UFAK and hopefully a number of athletes from this group will be able to participate at a WKF event later in 2018.

NAKU wishes to thank the following sponsors for their commitment to Namibia Karate;
